This 2026 coloured 20 cent coin commemorates Australia’s involvement in the Greece and Crete campaigns during the Second World War.
The design focuses on the German aerial assault on Crete, showing Junkers aircraft flying in formation above, with German parachutes descending through the sky. At the centre of the design, an Australian Army soldier operates an anti-aircraft gun, aiming upward towards the advancing enemy forces.
The soldier is positioned on a structure inspired by Minoan columns, reflecting the architecture and heritage of Crete. A horizontal line of standing figures symbolises those who were injured, fought, and lost their lives during the conflict.
The blue and white coloured print represents the stripes of the Greek flag, adding a meaningful tribute to the setting of this historic campaign.
