2026 50 Cent Coin – 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Kapyong CuNi UNC Coin on Card
Mintage: 40,000
Description:
This 2026 50 cent uncirculated coin commemorates the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Kapyong, fought from 22 to 27 April 1951 during the Korean War.
The Battle of Kapyong remains one of the most significant moments in Australia’s Korean War history, a conflict often remembered as the “forgotten war.” In April 1951, Chinese forces supporting North Korea launched a major offensive with the aim of retaking Seoul, the capital of South Korea.
Positioned about 60 kilometres north-east of Seoul, the 3rd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR) played a vital role in defending the Kapyong Valley. Their courage and determination, together with the support of other United Nations forces, helped stop the enemy advance.
The United Nations force included the 2nd Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (2PPCLI), a British infantry battalion, New Zealand artillery units, and United States tank and mortar support. Their combined resistance forced the Chinese forces to withdraw and helped keep Seoul under South Korean control.
The coin’s reverse design features a floral motif inspired by traditional Korean lattice frames. Within the design are 32 poppies, honouring the 32 Australian soldiers who lost their lives during the Battle of Kapyong.
Reverse Designer: Bronwyn Scott
